I know, vomit. Overly emotional from me this evening, you don’t catch me using Instagram buzzwords like ‘tribe’ very often 😂 you must pardon my emotiveness – but I’m feeling rather bubbly this Monday evening.
I’ve recently rekindled a wonderful friendship with my pal from Uni @thisisjenrich 🥰 and it’s just reminded me how important it is to surround yourself with wonderful people.
People who will tell you the God’s honest truth when you need it most, as well as be your biggest cheerleader when you’re feeling down.
It’s all about surrounding yourself with the right type of people for each situation; people who truly understand you and your creative-freelancer journey.
Because if they haven’t been through what you’re going through, how on earth are they meant to relate and impart wisdom?
Jen and I had the most wonderful pow-wow last week, we talked all about our freelancer woes, as well as our biggest wins (and of course, our dogs! 🐶) and it made me think… we worry so much about the negativity, the cutting feedback, that we forget sometimes it’s okay to lean on a fellow freelancer for some well needed emotional support.
Why does this make us weak?
Truth is, it doesn’t.
It’s just the industry telling us we’re not allowed to be friends, because we’re all meant to be competitors. And I’ve had enough of it! No more!
We should support and elevate other creatives rather than always being in competition. Because if we can’t support each other, imagine how clients are going to treat us?
